Alistair Wivell to retire from Balfour Beatty Board (UK)

Balfour Beatty has announced that Alistair Wivell is to retire from the company and from the Board with effect from the end of December 2005.

Alistair Wivell, who is 60, is one of four Group Managing Directors and is responsible for Balfour Beatty activities in UK building construction and electrical and mechanical engineering and services. He joined Balfour Beatty Construction as a student engineer in 1964 and through a series of promotions became its Managing Director in 1994. In 2002, he was appointed a Group Managing Director and joined the Board. In 1998, his services to the construction industry were recognised with the award of a CBE.

Commenting today, Balfour Beatty Chairman, Sir David John, said: "Alistair Wivell has made an enormous contribution to the success of the Group over many years. We thank him, sincerely, for his efforts and offer him every good wish for a long and happy retirement."

Alistair Wivell's responsibilities as Group Managing Director will be taken up by Mike Peasland who has been Managing Director of Mansell, the building and building services business, since it was acquired by Balfour Beatty at the end of 2003. Previously, he was Managing Director of Balfour Kilpatrick.
