Alcampo, the Spanish subsidiary of Auchan Retail, has signed an agreement for the acquisition of 235 supermarkets and a warehouse located in the regions of Madrid, Aragón, Asturias, Castilla y León, Galicia, Cantabria, Navarra and the Basque Country from the DIA Group. With this strategic acquisition, Alcampo consolidates its ambition to become the phygital leader in Spanish food retail.
The portfolio, which comprises a total sales area of over 180,000m², will be integrated into the Alcampo network, with 3,600 employees expected to join the Alcampo team. The stores will offer healthy, local products and access to a wide range of quality items at the 'best price'. The deal will also boost Alcampo's relationship with local producers.
The transaction is subject to the approval of the competition authorities and other approvals that are expected to be obtained in the coming weeks.
