NCC has been commissioned by Akademiska Hus to construct the new Faculty of Arts at the University of Gothenburg. The order is worth €49.7m (SEK 484m).

“The various institutions of the Faculty of Arts are currently divided between several different buildings. The aim of this remodeling and extension project is to house the faculty in one place, thus creating more and improved work spaces to help enhance interaction between students, lecturers and researchers,” says Birgitta van Dalen, Regional Director of Akademiska Hus, Western Region.

The preparatory groundwork will begin in October. Remodeling and new construction will commence in November of this year and are scheduled to last for about three years. The project is being conducted in phases, which will allow the faculty to remain in its premises during the construction period.

“In cooperation with Akademiska Hus, we will place strong emphasis on creating energy-efficient premises using sustainable materials to ensure healthy indoor climatic conditions. We will work together to achieve a Gold rating from the Sweden Green Building Council for the newly constructed buildings, while the remodeled premises will have Silver certification,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

The contract will be carried out in close collaboration with Akademiska Hus. The working method is in line with NCC Partnering, a structured form of collaboration where the developer, consultants and contractors work together to solve a construction assignment. The method is based on an open and trusting partnership, in which all parties share their professional knowledge throughout all phases of the project.

The project was procured in 2013 but was conditional upon the issuance of a land permit. The transaction will be registered during the fourth quarter of 2016 in the NCC Building business area.
