Westminster City Council has granted an appoval for AHMM-designed plan to redevelop a 1970s shopping centre on Oxford Street. The proposal developed for British Land and Norges Bank Investment Management will require the demolition of the existing property above the southern entrance to Bond Street underground station. Once complted the new complex will comprise nine storeys, and will provide nearly twice as much office space, with terraces at the third-, fifth-, sixth- and seventh-floor levels.
Councillor Robert Rigby said: "I think the current building there is an absolute eye sore and frankly anything replacing it is going to be better." Architects and councillors hope the spot may become a more popular destination, especially when the new Elizabeth Line station opens across the road in the Autumn.
