Quintain to unveil £1bn Wembley regeneration scheme

Quintain Estates is this week expected to submit an outline planning application for a £1bn redevelopment scheme surrounding the new Wembley Stadium.

The masterplan, prepared by Richard Rogers, is expected to be submitted to Brent Council on Friday. It will comprise 5m sq ft of mixed-use development, alongside 3,700 homes on a 55-acre site which includes Wembley Arena, conference and exhibition halls.

The Wembley scheme will centre around a public square the size of Leicester Square, and a boulevard similar in scale to Regent Street. It is expected to include a number of tall towers and create around 6,000 jobs.

Specialist developers are likely to be brought in to manage the leisure development. Up to half the site is expected to be retained as open space to improve the appearance of the area.

Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, has identified Wembley as a key growth area and is understood to back the scheme.
