CBRE appointed joint Gherkin letting agent (UK)

CB Richard Ellis has been brought in to help let the Swiss Re tower at 30 St Mary Axe in the City of London.

Norman Forster’s iconic new tower, nicknamed the Gherkin, has struggled to attract occupiers since its completion last year.

In March, Swiss Re announced that it would consider floors 16-21 of the building to single occupiers. Rent on these floors is understood to be £47.50 per sq ft.

Royal & SunAlliance had been expected to take space at the 500,000 sq ft tower, but eventually opted for British Land’s Plantation Place development instead.

Andrew Green, Property Services Director at 30 St Mary Axe, commented: “With the significant increase in letting activity in the market, we have decided to expand our leasing team. Working alongside DTZ, CB Richard Ellis’s global experience will help us to take advantage of the interest in this building.”
