Heijmans and Boelens De Gruyter to transform Parooltoren and Trouwgebouw in Amsterdam (NL)

Developer Boelens de Gruyter and The Student Hotel have commissioned Heijmans Residential Building to transform the Parooltoren and Trouwgebouw. Both office buildings will be transformed into a student hotel with 573 rooms and approximately 4,000 m2 GFA for supporting facilities. The contract is valued at approximately €28 mln.
The agreement consists of a Design & Build contract whereby the Parooltoren's façade will be retained, the inside will be decontaminated, demolished and redesigned to accommodate hotel rooms, including furnishings and fittings. The adjacent Trouwgebouw office building will acquire a new façade, the top story will be removed, after which two new stories will be added. A connection will be constructed between both buildings, so that the entire structure will become a single multifunctional complex. Heijmans will fully finish the new hotel, which is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2015. Meaning the hotel will open prior to the start of the new academic year. The supporting facilities will be delivered in the first quarter of 2016.
In addition to the Parooltoren and Trouwgebouw, Heijmans is also renovating and transforming the Wijnhavenkwartier district and De Resident in The Hague, as well as the Eikenflats in Leeuwarden. These projects respond to the market demand for sustainable redevelopment and transformation of existing real estate.
