Wates secures planning for Liverpool Cruise Terminal Hotel (GB)

Wates Construction has received planning permission to build Liverpool City Council’s new Cruise Terminal Hotel, marking a major step forward for Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters, the city’s major waterfront regeneration scheme. The four-star hotel will support Liverpool’s new Cruise Liner Terminal at Princes Dock, which once built, will accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships.

The 200-bed hotel will include a lobby bar, cafe, restaurant, business suite and back of house facilities as well as visitor and coach parking, and a taxi pick-up and drop-off point. Construction of the new hotel is expected to commence early 2020. Peel L&P’s €5.7bn (£5bn) Liverpool Waters scheme is one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe, which will create five distinct neighbourhoods and breathe life back into the city’s northern docks.

Dave Saville, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction North West, commented: “We are very pleased to have received planning permission for the new Liverpool Cruise Terminal Hotel, a development that will play a significant role in the growth of the city’s already booming tourism industry. Months of work have gone into the planning for the project in terms of its delivery and the added value it will create for local people and we look forward to bringing these plans to fruition in the coming months and years.”

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “Liverpool should be the premier cruise destination on the west coast of the UK and our new terminal will underpin that ambition and make it a reality. This hotel is critical to the plan to create a world-class experience for the cruise companies and their passengers. The city is working with some of the very best in the construction industry to deliver the facilities and I’m delighted they’ve got the green light to start this hugely important scheme.”

Darran Lawless, Development Director for Liverpool Waters, part of Peel L&P, said: “This is a fantastic step forward for Liverpool’s regeneration. The hotel will be a brilliant addition to our waterfront, allowing visitors from around the world to experience this fantastic city. We look forward to seeing the development progress as part of the wider Liverpool Waters scheme.”
