TAV wins tender for Milas-Bodrum Airport

TAV Airports has submitted the highest bid of €717 million+VAT during the tender held regarding the operating rights of the Milas-Bodrum Airport, one of the most significant tourism destinations of Turkey, for 20 years. TAV will be the operator of Milas-Bodrum Airport until the end of 2035. 


Turkey’s global brand in airport operations, TAV Airports added Milas-Bodrum Airport to its portfolio as the 14th airport. TAV has submitted the highest bid of €717 million+VAT during the tender for the operating rights of Milas-Bodrum Airport until 2035. Fraport IC JV, Astaldi-Göçay-ROM Airport JV and YDA Construction also participated in the tender, which was held at the Blue Hall of General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI).


The final bid was submitted at the end of 105th round. TAV Airports will take over the operating rights of International Terminal as of October 22nd, 2015 in accordance with the tender specifications. The operating rights of domestic terminal will be transferred to TAV on the date to be set by the hand-over commission established by DHMI.


TAV Airports President & CEO Sani Sener stated “Milas-Bodrum Airport connects a significant tourism center to the rest of the world having passenger traffic higher than 3.5 million. Milas Bodrum Airport becomes the 14th airport in our portfolio. Bodrum is a candidate to be the 4th largest city of Turkey in 2025. We believe in the future of Bodrum. We did not have the intention of giving up.  There is a 20% down payment; however we already have our financing at hand. We will undertake this project with 30% of shareholder's equity and 70% financing. We invest all our earnings in this industry as it is our sole business. We have TAV Academy, a company that provides trainings to create human resources for airport operations industry of our country and region. We will not have any trouble regarding finance or HR during the project. We participate in all airport projects that are within our business model."


Being one of the most crowded airports of Aegean Region of Turkey, Milas-Bodrum Airport opened to international traffic in 1997. Located within the borders of Muğla province, the airport is located between Milas and Bodrum, two important cities of antique Caria region. Furthermore, it plays a very significant role in the transportation to tourism centers such as Didim, Kuşadası, Söke of Aydın province as well as Muğla. The airport is only 32 km away from Bodrum, 12 km away from Milas and 82 km away from Didim.
