Swiss Life completes logistics centre Zwickau North in Ponitz (DE)

Swiss Life Asset Managers has completed the development of the more than 22,500m2 logistics centre “Zwickau North”. The state-of-the-art and sustainable new building is ready for occupancy and available immediately.

The “Zwickau Nord” project development in Ponitz has been successfully concluded with the handover of the now-completed logistics centre to the investor-developer Swiss Life Asset Managers by the general contractor LIST BiB. Marcel Greunke, the mayor of Ponitz, and representatives of the Altenburger Land district office were also present at the handover. The ready-to-occupy logistics property is located at Altenburger Strasse 10A and is still available on the market.

We are delighted with the successful and timely completion of this forward-looking project and would like to thank everyone involved for their excellent cooperation,” said Ingo Steves, Managing Partner Logistics at Swiss Life Asset Managers. He added: “This new building not only impresses with its ideal location and high sustainability standards but also appeals to a wide variety of customers thanks to its flexible utilisation concept.”.

We develop our projects with long-term sustainability in mind. An important focus of our development process is therefore the fulfilment of high, internationally recognised ESG criteria,” emphasised Jorg Werder, Construction Director Logistics at Swiss Life Asset Managers.

A photovoltaic system on the roof, modern heat pumps and buffer storage are part of the comprehensive energy concept and ensure independence from fossil fuels. The overall aim is to achieve BREEAM „Very Good“ certification.

The new state-of-the-art building was built on a 49,900m2 greenfield site. At 20,160m2, most of the rental space is logistics space. In addition, 840m2 of social and office space and 1,500mof mezzanine space were constructed. The property can be used flexibly and can be divided into two units of 11,000m2 each. It also has pre-equipment for storage facilities in accordance with the Water Resources Act as preparation for the storage of water-polluting substances.

District Administrator Uwe Melzer said: “The speedy completion of this modern and sustainable logistics centre in Ponitz is good news for our region. The district administration office has supported this as part of its task fulfilment. I particularly like the utilisation of the roof area for a solar system and the use of heat pumps and buffer storage. Especially in the current economic situation, it is important to provide such impetus for the further positive development of our economy.

The mayor of Ponitz, Marcel Greunke, also welcomes the rapid completion: “The Zwickau North logistics centre was completed in record time directly on the Thuringian-Saxon state border. Swiss Life Asset Managers has thus demonstrated that the company believes in the location and is focussing on state-of-the-art, modern conditions for its customers. We are sure that the clients of Swiss Life Asset Managers will appreciate these favourable conditions and bring the commercial heart of the building to life.

The location has excellent connections to national and international logistics networks via multiple motorways and a federal road. It is a logistics hub for the nearby cities of Leipzig, Chemnitz, and Zwickau, and offers top-notch infrastructure. It is also a strategic distribution hub for national and international goods traffic due to its proximity to the Dresden metropolitan region and the Czech Republic.
