St David's covers approx. 130,000 m² and is anchored by the largest John Lewis store outside London.

The Cardiff center, a joint-venture between Land Securities and Capital Shopping Centres, was highly praised for its innovative architectural design which has ensured integration into the city's established streetscape. The judges also highlighted the creation of iconic landmark buildings and new streets with public spaces for Cardiff.

Chris Goddard, chairman of the BCSC Gold Awards Jury and national head of planning, development and regeneration at GVA Grimley, commented on St David's: "Whilst a number of schemes may achieve the Gold standard, and a total of eight schemes this year were judged to meet that standard, the Jury concluded that there should only be one Supreme Award.

"With such a strong line-up, there were a number of candidates for this ultimate accolade, but the Jury felt that one scheme stood out for its scale and impact, its integration with the rest of the city center, its mix of uses and treatment of open and enclosed space and for genuinely achieving a step change in the role of the city center."

Land Securities' Managing Director for Retail, Richard Akers, said: "It is inspiring to see such great achievements by the industry and I am very pleased for the St David's team in winning the Supreme Gold Award. It is the highest accolade for shopping centers, which demonstrates the excellent expertise of the development and center management team in making St David's a great success.

"This is the sixth time we have won the Supreme Gold Award since they started seven years ago showing our skill and commitment to destinations that create a quality retail offer and capture people's imagination."

St David's covers approx. 130,000 m², anchored by the largest John Lewis store outside London, and has attracted a footfall of 36 million in the first year of trading.

The Gold Awards reward excellence in retail-led development and recognize projects that drive regeneration and improve the quality of the built environment.
