Spuimarkt acquires C&A premises in The Hague

The development company Spuimarkt has acquired the C&A premises in Grote Marktstraat, The Hague, from Redevco Nederland B.V. The acquisition is an important step in the plan to redevelop the C&A/Markthof sub-area, which itself is part of a broader project to develop the whole Spuimarkt area. Spuimarkt development company is formed by ING Real Estate, AM Vastgoed and BAM Vastgoed.

The acquisition paves the way for the implementation of the integrated development plans for this part of Spuimarkt. In the near future, C&A will be relocated to the former Marks and Spencers premises, on the opposite side of Grote Marktstraat street. This will serve as a temporary location as of mid-August 2003. C&A will return to its present location following completion and delivery of the C&A/Markthof sub-area.

Planning
Demolition of the Markthof Stadszijde section is scheduled to commence early in June 2003. All Markthof proprietors have been relocated, and Markthof residents have found alternative accommodation. The C&A premises adjoining the Markthof are scheduled for demolition in September.
The C&A/Markthof location will house a multi screen cinema seating around 2,800 people, as well as some 22,500 m2 of shopping and entertainment facilities. The new shopping and entertainment complex is due for completion and delivery in the final quarter of 2005.

Upgrade city centre
The Spuimarkt project, which includes the C&A/Markthof sub-area, involves the redevelopment of the area between Spuistraat, Wagenstraat, Rabbijn Maarssenplein, and the Spui road. The redevelopment and addition of shops, apartments and entertainment facilities within the Spuimarkt area is expected to upgrade the Hague city centre significantly.
