Skanska Property begins construction of the Nordica Ostrava Office Building (CZ)

Skanska Property has obtained building permission and selected a general contractor for its Nordica Ostrava office building. General contractor is Skanska CZ, a.s., one of the leading construction firms on the Czech market, with vast long-time experience and an international base. Construction work has already commenced in the centre of Ostrava on the corner of Èeskobratrská and Soukenická streets where the Nordica building is located.

Having fenced off the construction site, the general contractor has commenced work on the excavation pit. According to the development time schedule, the building is due to be fully completed in February 2009. Speaking of the development of the Nordica building, Rikard Henriksson, Director of Skanska Property Czech Republic, said: "We are very happy to have been able to launch a project which, in addition to prime office space, will also bring fresh Scandinavian architecture to Ostrava." "We tried to sensitively combine Scandinavian architectural features with local color and custom," added architect Ivan Krejčí, a native of Ostrava and head of the Swedish architectural practice Tengbomarkitekter. "Our intention was to create a pleasant working environment for the building's future occupants. The workplace has to meet high demands as regards heating and lighting in creating a comfortable environment, as well as providing perfect technical specifications and an aesthetic design."

A company with a wealth of experience, Nordica's general contractor, Skanska CZ, has been operating in the area of construction since 1953. It can boast many successful projects; recently, for instance, the development of the new ČSOB headquarters in the Prague district of Radlice. The company is part of the international Swedish group Skanska, as is project developer Skanska Property.

The Nordica Ostrava office building will offer approximately 12,000 m² of prime office space right in the centre of Ostrava in a location which boasts superb accessibility. It is a seven-story building with 132 parking spaces in a two-story basement car park. There are plans to locate 2,000 m² of retail space for shops and a restaurant on the ground floor. Total investment is estimated at CZK 400 mln. (approx. €13.7 mln.).
