Skanska has invested €37m (DKK 277m) in the first phase of an office scheme in Ørestad City, Denmark.

Construction on the initial phase will commence in April 2016 and produce a leasable area of around 11,500m2 office space, of which Sweco Danmark will rent 10,500m2 from April 2018 when the project is due to launch. The second phase will add around 12,800 square meters.

Ørestad is a relatively new pocket of Copenhagen, on the island of Amager. Significant development has taken place there in recent years with the long term plan of bringing amenities for 80,000 workers and 20,000 students to the area. Ørestad City is one of four city regions and the area to see the most construction.

Skanska is also working on a further development in the area in partnership with Sjælsø Management called "Ø Huset". Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects designed the complex, which will comprise four independent buildings, in total 26,000m2 apartments and a groceries store.
