Senukai subsidiary OMA builds first modern DIY-store in Belarus (BY)

A new store is now being constructed in Minsk for OMA, the Belarusian subsidiary of Rautakesko's subsidiary Senukai. Construction began yesterday for the 8,500 m² store in the Belarusian capital, which will be the country's first modern-built DIY store, and will be completed in the middle of 2010.

Minsk has a population of 1.8 million inhabitants. The residential housing sector continues to grow with demand for DIY rising. The entire building and home improvement market in Belarus totals some €1.3 billion, of which OMA's market share of 5% shows significant further potential.

"The start of construction of our new store is a strong indication that the Belarusian retail market is developing towards western standards and provides a positive sign to the inhabitants of Minsk that new retail concepts and products are reaching them", says Mikhail Khomichenok, Managing Director of OMA.

The concept and fit-out of the new store in Minsk is being implemented in close co-operation with Senukai; the development and financing of the project are managed by Senukai's real estate service provider in the region, Zabolis Partners.
