Schiphol Real Estate develops new cargo building for Menzies Aviation and Skylink (NL)

Schiphol Real Estate has begun construction of cargo building 9 at Cargo World Schiphol South-East. The building is needed to cope with the expected future growth of air freight. Menzies Aviation and Skylink, two major freight handlers, will lease 75% of the new building and the remainder of the space will be available to third parties. The building will provide 24,600 m² of warehouse space and 3,900 m² of office space.

The new cargo building is adjacent to the apron of one of the runways, the Kaagbaan, and here freight will be transferred to and from the aircraft. The architects are Groosman Partners and completion is scheduled for early in 2007. This new location represents an expansion by Menzies Aviation at Schiphol South-East. Menzies already leases cargo building 8 and one of the commercial buildings. Each year Menzies handles some 430,000 tonnes of freight at Schiphol. Skylink is currently still located at Schiphol South and handles approximately 71,000 tonnes of freight a year.
