Rogue City Hotels acquires Wellington House in Glasgow (GB)

Rogue City Hotels, advised by Gerald Eve, has purchased Wellington House in Glasgow following a competitive bidding process for conversion into a new 98-bedroom luxury boutique hotel. The five-storey B-listed building, located on the corner of Wellington Street and Bath Street within the City Centre, received planning permission from Glasgow City Council for its conversion in September 2019, with work set to begin on the €23.5m (£20m) project this month. When complete the new luxury hotel, to be known as “The Wellington”, will combine the best of boutique hotel design, standards and service excellence with the convenience, independence and flexibility of a serviced apartment. Changes to the building’s historic façade will be kept to a minimum.

Sven Macaulay, partner at property consultancy Gerald Eve, said: “The Wellington will be a fantastic addition to Glasgow’s hotel offer, and it will be great to see such a handsome building brought up to date and back into use. The search for additional opportunities continues with Edinburgh in particular of interest."

Nassar Khalil, chief executive of Rogue City Hotels and Director of Hotels and Leisure at The Henley Group, said: "We are extremely excited to have secured planning consent for our next hotel in the heart of one of Scotland’s most celebrated and captivating cities. As with all our hotels, our focus is to provide guests with design-led luxury accommodation, exceptional service, comfort and convenience, and curate a special relationship with the local area. These sum up the key attributes of a Rogue City Hotel."
