REDEVCO to start constructing shopping center in Manisa (TR/NL)

REDEVCO is set to start constructing a 54,000-m² shopping center, its first in Manisa. Manisa is located in one of the most industrialised provinces in the Aegean region with a population of 1,280,000. The shopping center development is located on the Istanbul-Izmir motorway close to Manisa's city center. This project will be the city's first shopping center, creating a new shopping and social environment for Manisa's residents and those from neighbouring provinces. It will also provide employment opportunities for a thousand people in the region. Manisa shopping center is scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2009.

The scheme, designed by Redevconcepts and CPU Architects, will provide 54,000 m² of gross leasable area, comprising 145 retail units, an 11,000-m² hypermarket, a 5,000-m² DIY shop, a 3,000-m² consumer electronics store, gastronomy covering 2,500 m², a 10-screen cinema complex and a car park with capacity for 2,500 cars. Designed as an environmentally friendly building, Manisa Shopping Centre aims to generate its own energy using cogeneration facilities.

REDEVCO Turkey's Managing Director Patrick van Dooyeweert, in Manisa to announce REDEVCO's investment plans, said, "REDEVCO is active in 20 European countries and started researching real estate opportunities in Turkey in May 2006." He explained that REDEVCO aims to create value for the societies and economies of the cities in which it invests, and that as a consequence the company is highly selective, opting for projects deliberately focused on the environment. Van Dooyeweert: "REDEVCO plans to expand its portfolio in major cities, with a major focus on retail."
