Preview of Cradle to Cradle Criteria for the Built Environment (NL/EU)

Attendees at the Conference "Inspired by… Cradle to Cradle® 2.0" will have the opportunity to hear about and discuss "Cradle to Cradle® Criteria for the Built Environment" which will become available later this year. The criteria are written by Cradle to Cradle pioneer Michael Braungart and his collaborator of many years,
Douglas Mulhall.

The Cradle-to Cradle Conference will be held Wednesday June 16 in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.

"Cradle to Cradle® is in a constant phase of improvement", Mulhall explains. "With the Criteria for the Built Environment, it will be possible for architects, builders and government agencies to have clear measurable guidelines for how you can apply Cradle to Cradle®. As keynote speaker Douglas Mulhall will discuss this and other guidelines to implement Cradle to Cradle® at the Congress Inspired by Cradle to Cradle® 2.0. - June 16 summit in Orpheus in Apeldoorn, organised by Duurzaam Gebouwd.

Douglas Mulhall has co-defined Cradle to Cradle® since its beginning in 1990 and contributed to the Hannover Principles of Design as well as the first Cradle to Cradle® –defined products. He currently is a senior researcher at the Dutch Research Institute For Transitions (DRIFT), where Michael Braungart holds the Cradle to Cradle chair at Erasmus University. Mulhall will explain how to distinguish the Cradle to Cradle philosophy, criteria and application tools. This framework provides insight into how materials can be defined, how renewable energy can be integrated and how diversity can apply at different levels.

The built environment will benefit from clear goals, milestones and roadmaps", said Mulhall. "Then we can focus on overcoming barriers to implementation". Later this year, the criteria will be published. The congress Inspired by Cradle to Cradle® 2.0 features many other speakers who wlll provide more detailed explanation.

What is Cradle to Cradle®? Cradle to Cradle® is a new look at quality in design as described in "Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things" by William McDonough and Michael Braungart. The aim of the Cradle to Cradle vision is to provide an innovation platform for improved product and materials quality. For example designing buildings that contribute beneficially to the environment. For more information: www.c2c-congres.nl Cradle to Cradle® is a registered mark of MBDC.
