Peter Smith becomes Savills Chairman (UK)

Peter Smith (52) has been appointed as Chairman of Savills plc, replacing Richard Jewson, who is retiring.

Smith is a former accountant who spent 32 years at Coopers & Lybrand. He was made Chairman in 1994 and became a Senior Partner when the firm merged to become PricewaterhouseCoopers.

He retired from his executive role in 2000, and has served in a non-executive capacity at RAC, NM Rothschild, Equitable Life and Templeton Emerging Markets Investment Trust. He was also a Non-executive Director at Safeway prior to its acquisition by Wm Morrison.
