OVG Projectontwikkeling has bought the former warehouse Las Palmas on the Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This building is currently being redeveloped. On the roof of Las Palmas, OVG is also developing a penthouse for their own new head office.
The former workshop of the Holland Amerika Lijn (HAL) is being renovated completely after years of various use. Las Palmas has a size of approx. 22,000 m² and the penthouse will comprise approx. 2,000 m².
Architects Benthem Crouwel have been selected for both the renovation as OVGs new office. The new head office of OVG strengthens the industrial character of Las Palmas. The design and materialization of the roof construction refer to the maritime character and the past of Kop van Zuid. The building will be a detached object on the roof, and forms an icon for its surroundings.
In Las Palmas, both cultural as commercial organizations will be housed. Various cultural organizations like: the Dutch photomuseum, the BeeldFabriek and the Vrije Ruimte will set up business in the building. The commercial areas will be mainly focused on office users from the creative sector and business services. Besides this, there are possibilities for a restaurant or galery on the ground floor. This confirms the diverse character of Las Palmas and will allow a wide public the possibility to visit the building.
The OBR has been at the foundation of the redevelopment and is responsible for attracting cultural institutions. DTZ Zadelhoff is responsible, on behalf of OVG, for letting out the building. Mid february 2007 the building, totally renewed, will open its doors.
