NVM expects moderate price increase in housing

The price for an average house in the Netherlands increased by 2% during the 2nd quarter in 2002 compared to the 1st quarter 2002. The average price now stands at EUR 205,000.

A modest increase and clearly less than the 3.2% increase of the 2nd quarter 2001. Chairman Oscar Smit: 'The number of transactions and supply is increasing. The time houses are on the market decreases. Different today than in the beginning of this year is that also the more expensive houses are being sold easily. This illustrates an active market, which is normal during the 2nd quarter. We expect a stabilization during the third quarter due to the weakening consumer confidence and the disappointing economic growth rate figures.'
