Noord-Zuidlijn costs €92 million extra

Recent research of the municipality of Amsterdam reveals that the costs of the construction of the infrastructural mega project Noord-Zuidlijn will increase with 6% (€92 million). This means that the total expenses will rise from €1,46 billion to €1,55 billion. As a result, the completion of this huge underground system will be delayed for seven months till October 2011.

The foreseen increase of expenses mainly consists of an increased estimate of the building costs. According to the municipality, among other things the delay in the construction is due to long term legal procedures and the time that was needed to remove unforeseen obstacles from the underground. Amsterdam will raise an extra fund to cope with any possible financial setback that results from the construction of the Noord-Zuidlijn.
