MVRDV gets green light for Amsterdam Hyde Park scheme (NL)

The municipality of Haarlemmermeer has approved MVRDV’s urban plan for the new Hyde Park district in Amsterdam. The project will occupy Beukenhorst-West office estate next to Hoofddorp station and is expected to launch in spring 2019. The masterplan contributes to upgrading Hoofddorp into a future-proof and vibrant city where work, living and recreation coexist.

The scheme features a complex of high-quality buildings with sound-proof indoor gardens. A key feature of MVRDV's vision for Hyde Park is the 'cuts' in the buildings which result in maximum sunlight and park views for residents. Hyde Park will be integrated into its surrounding and its original polder structure will be restored whilst shopping centre lines extended to aid walking and cycling routes between the shopping centre, park and station.

Barcode, Team V, MVSA, Manuelle Gautrand and Studio Nine Dots, among others, will be responsible for the development of the blocks of the project. MVRDV will supervise the architecture as well as the public space design.

"Hyde Park will become a welcoming entrance to the city centre. Soon, the buildings will be visible from afar, like a rock landscape in the polder, where the green of the park seems to run through the green roofs and inner gardens," says Winy Maas, co-founder of MVRDV. "It will become the next hub inside the metropolitan area of Amsterdam."
