The 2007 MAPIC Awards were the first to have a competition dedicated to shopping centers, 'the MAPIC Shopping Center Award'. The Awards honor the most dynamic international retailers and act as a showcase for their future success.
"The MAPIC Awards represent professional recognition from the retail real estate sector. This competition is spreading its wings with even more international projects flooding in, mainly from Western and Eastern Europe and North America. The MAPIC Awards continue to innovate, as illustrated this year by the creation of a new category dedicated to shopping centers," says Javier Andrès, MAPIC Sales Director.
The jury, presided by Sharon Fernandez Cavada King, Director of the Retail Department at DTZ Asesores Inmobiliarios Internacionales, chose Forum Coimbra in Coimbra, Portugal as the winner out of 21 finalists. Developed by Multi Development Portugal/Promotora Imobiliaria, Forum Coimbra offers 48,000 m² of retail space. The main anchor store of Forum Coimbra is an 18,000-m² Carrefour hypermarket. Other anchor tenants include FNAC, Zara, H&M, C&A, Rádio Popular, Norauto and Lusomondo with a six-screen cinema complex. The center also includes 100 shop units, a food court with 28 restaurants and parking for 2,500 cars.
Entre Deux, another Multi Development project developed in joint venture with 3W, earned a commendation in the new 'MAPIC Shopping Center Award' category. Located in Maastricht, The Netherlands, Entre Deux has 12,000 m² of retail and catering facilities, 19 apartments, and parking for 231 cars.
Multi Development was further honored with the 'European Retail Developer of the Year Award'.
