Nieuwegein will double its retail space over the next two years. With the opening of the first phase in September, approximately 20,000 m² of shops will be added. The town square (Stadsplein) in the center of Spijkenisse is being extended by 12,500 m² of shops, restaurants and apartments. Corio is also the owner of Stadsplein.

Demand continues for quality sites
Both projects are almost fully rented and will be welcoming a large number of stores that were not previously represented there. The developers have also opted for smaller and more local formulas. Nieuwegein and Spijkenisse both include The Sting, Saturn and New Yorker. In Nieuwegein there is Men at Work, CoolCat, Perry Sport and a Jumbo supermarket, while Spijkenisse features Vila, Pieces, Invito, SuperCoop and Big Bazar.

All are very prominent retailers that add quality to the existing offering and thus the attraction of both urban centers within the region. Harald Telkamp, Leasing Director of Multi Vastgoed said "The results show that despite the current economic circumstances; there is still a healthy demand for new retail spaces that are central, and in good concepts on high quality sites.
