Multi Development to open two major Dutch inner-city retail projects in September (NL)

Multi is set to unveil two major new urban projects: the first expansion phase of downtown Nieuwegein, and the new town square (Stadsplein) of Spijkenisse.

Stadskwartier - Nieuwegein - NL

Nieuwegein will double its retail space over the next two years. With the opening of the first phase in September, approximately 20,000 m² of shops will be added. In 2013, when the second phase opens, the city will have a total of 56,000 m² retail space; one of the largest urban developments in the Netherlands.

Centrumplan - Spijkenisse

The town square (Stadsplein) in the center of Spijkenisse is being extended by 12,500 m² of shops, restaurants and apartments. The expansion of the parking also creates an important starting point for visiting the city. Simultaneously, the adjoining mall, The Kopspijker owned by Corio, is being completely renovated. Corio is also the owner of Stadsplein.

Demand continues for quality sites
Both projects are almost fully rented and will be welcoming a large number of stores that were not previously represented there. The developers have also opted for smaller and more local formulas. Nieuwegein and Spijkenisse both include The Sting, Saturn and New Yorker. In Nieuwegein there is Men at Work, CoolCat, Perry Sport and a Jumbo supermarket, while Spijkenisse features Vila, Pieces, Invito, SuperCoop and Big Bazar.

All are very prominent retailers that add quality to the existing offering and thus the attraction of both urban centers within the region. Harald Telkamp, Leasing Director of Multi Vastgoed said "The results show that despite the current economic circumstances; there is still a healthy demand for new retail spaces that are central, and in good concepts on high quality sites.
