Last Friday, MDC confirmed its intention, as already announced at the MIPIM, of investing in the town centre of Duisburg by acquiring the property on the corner of Steinsche Gasse/Münzstraße (the for-mer Boecker Haus) and the adjacent urban site.
MDC plans to replace the existing block with a multifunctional building, with approximately 4,000 m2 of retail space on 3 floors (basement, ground and 1st floor) and a further 11,000m2 on three additional floors. These upper floors will be available for use as offices and other premises within the service and leisure sector.
The MDC GroupÂ's team of architects - T&T Design - are currently developing a concept that aims to satisfy the demands of future clients, by provid-ing a design of the highest standard of quality within a pleasant environment. One of the basic requirements of MDC concepts is that the new project integrates well into its expanded surroundings, from the town planning point of view.
The mayor Bärbel Zieling, welcoming news of the MDCÂ's plans from the MIPIM in Cannes, pointed out: 'The fact that the biggest inde-pendent property development company of the Netherlands and a major player on the European property market, is willing to invest, will help stimulate inner-city development!'
