Multi chosen to develop IJmuiden city center (NL)

Multi Vastgoed was chosen by the Mayor and Aldermen of the municipality of Velsen, in competition with three other developers, to develop the inner-city of IJmuiden. In May they will consult the City Council about this basic decision.

Multi's plan offers the opportunity to significantly accelerate the long-term preparations for the development of the city center. The Multi plan does not require any third party participation. No houses need to be demolished and there will be no need for shopkeepers to move to temporary accommodation. All elements of Multi's proposal ensure that the risk profile is very low. The plan can therefore be realized, even in these current uncertain market circumstances, very quickly.

The original urban development plan for the center of IJmuiden was by Dudok. Multi's plan fully respects its historical value while providing a contemporary compaction of the shop area. The main shopping street, Nieuwstraat, will be extended and contain a sunken shopping street; inspired by Multi's Beurstraverse project in Rotterdam. Multi expects to take action together with the municipality, shopkeepers and residents to work out the plan on short notice.
