Montea develops new logistics property for Amazon (NL)

Montea has completed a 10,600m² delivery station in the Schiphol Logistics Park on a site of 2.4 hectares. The site was acquired at the end of 2019 from SADC (Schiphol Area Development Company). In addition, a 2.2 hectares plot for parking spaces will be completed in Q2 2021. The transaction has a total value of approximately €27m. The building and the parking lot have been rented out to Amazon Logistics for 10 years and is estimated to be operational in summer 2021.

Amazon Logistics is helping independent local delivery companies to grow their businesses and add capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery network to meet increasing customer demand. Packages will be shipped to the delivery station from Amazon existing European fulfilment and sortation centres and loaded onto vehicles to get delivered to customers. In the summer, Amazon will create around 200 direct jobs at the delivery station. In addition, roughly 450 drivers working for the independent delivery companies will collect parcels from the delivery station and deliver them to Amazon customers in the Netherlands.

“Since Amazon started serving customers in the Netherlands, it has established trustful relationships with carriers operating in the country and will continue working closely with them in the future. To meet the increasing customer demand and add capacity and flexibility to its delivery network, Amazon will set up its own delivery station in Rozenburg-Schiphol,” commented Robert Viegers, Vice-president Amazon Logistics Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

“We are delighted that we can help a market leader such as Amazon by providing them with the ideal distribution centre at the most suitable location in the Netherlands. This so-called last-mile proves to be especially difficult in densely populated areas like big cities, so that is exactly where the logistics sector needs to keep innovating, with sustainable out-of-the-box ideas. In addition to the ‘big boxes’ we developed in the past, the amount of these last-mile solutions is increasing in our portfolio, with smaller units geared specifically to delivery to the end consumer within a 20 to 30 km radius,” said Hylcke Okkinga, director of Montea Netherlands.
