#MIPIM: JLL will work with Pavegen to show delegates how their very footprint can help energize a city

According to research by JLL, in this new world of cities, success will depend upon the city’s ability to respond to the modern language of competiveness and to leverage the benefits of new technologies and sustainability in all its contexts. Sustainability in cities is about more than being green. It’s about ensuring the productivity of its people, being resilient to physical, financial and political change, and understanding its citizens in order to cater to their needs.
Energy is a clear need of any city and now there is a way for every citizen to be part of the sustainability story, just by using their feet. Pavegen will be working with JLL to make its MIPIM debut at the JLL marquee and stand.
“Pavegen technology converts the wasted kinetic energy from footsteps into renewable electricity. If the average person takes over one hundred and fifty million footsteps in their lifetime, imagine the power that could be harnessed by the collective footsteps of the huge number of people that will live in the cities of the future. These are great steps towards future-proofing and adding value to the cities of tomorrow.” said Laurence Kemball-Cook, CEO and Founder Pavegen Systems.
“The only successful cities in the future will be those which are sustainable. Sustainability is the thread weaving through the very fabric of cities, through energy usage, policies and strategies, human behaviour and resource management. As we spend around 90% of our time in buildings, real estate has a huge role to play when it comes to implementing sustainable measures,” said Rosemary Feenan, Director of Global Research at JLL.
“The thinking behind Pavegen is a microcosm of everything that the cities of the future will need to succeed: innovation, creativity and the cleverness to be able to connect the citizen to their real estate. It is just one demonstration of how cities can future-proof their growth by incorporating smart technologies to give themselves a competitive edge.” adds Feenan.
