Mipim 2007: International Award for the Europa Passage Hamburg

The Europa Passage Hamburg has received the Mipim Award 2007 in the category shopping centers at the International Real Estate Fair Mipim in Cannes.

The award winning Europa Passage, Hamburg

The Europa Passage in Hamburg was opened on 5 October 2006. Comprising 30,000 square meters of retail space on five floors, it is one of the largest inner-city shopping centers in Germany. On 15 March the arcade, which was built according to the design of the star architect Hadi Teherani, received the Mipim Award 2007 in the category shopping centers.

The award was accepted by Mr Werner Oellers, managing director of Allianz Immobilien GmbH, at a ceremony in the Palais des Festivals in Cannes in the south of France. "We are delighted that this award gives the Europa Passage international recognition for its outstanding architecture", said Mr Oellers.

Unique shopping concept with European flair
It is not only the wide range of shops and cafes and restaurants which make the five floors of this futuristic glass building so special. Shop concepts such as, for example, the first Oakley Shop in Germany, give the Europa Passage its special profile. More than 70 percent of the tenants are new to downtown Hamburg and many of them are establishing a foothold in Germany or even in Europe for the very first time. Until the last train leaves the underground railway station (the U-Bahn) – Jungfernstieg station is directly accessible from the shopping mall – you can spend a pleasant evening here or simply "shop till you drop".

Unique architecture and panorama
The Europa Passage is different from other conventional arcades in that it receives its visitors like an authentic street in a city. The 21 arches, which line the 160-meter-long arcade and connect the five floors with each other, turn your shopping trip into a walk through an arcade flooded with light. A glass panorama elevator, which tempts visitors with a spectacular view of the Binnenalster, transports you from the entrance on Ballindamm directly to the food and drinks area on the second floor where you will be rewarded with a breath-taking panorama of the city and its streets. A view which you never had before. This architecture by Hadi Teherani makes the Europa Passage an exciting new attraction not only for the people of Hamburg themselves, but also for tourists.

The Europa Passage is a joint project by Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG and the HSH Nordbank AG, represented by Allianz Immobilien GmbH. Allianz Centermanagement GmbH is responsible for the running and management of the Europa Passage. The investment volume totals approx. 430 million euros.
