MIPIM 2006: Competitive Finland

Competitive Finland is a joint pavilion of major urban areas and real estate developers, and its participants include the Helsinki, Tampere and Turku regions, Hartela, NCC, Skanska, SRV and YIT, and Finnforest, a supplier of wood products.

Daily newsflashes will be presented on Finland's pavilion, Competitive Finland, by Finnish top names: Matti Alahuhta, President of Kone Corporation and member of the BT Group (formerly British Telecom) Board, Pekka Korpinen, Mayor for City Planning and Real Estate, City of Helsinki, Timo Nurminen, Managing Director, Catella Property Group, and Jussi Voima, Senior Vice President, Sourcing, Aker Yards.

In addition to the top newsflashes on real estate, expertise and logistics, there will be a press conference at the Competitive Finland pavilion, and a Nokia camera mobile phone will be raffled among the visitors.

Interest in Finland among international real estate investors has increased significantly in the past few years. Investors have earned better profits in Finland than in other EU countries, and Finland's favourable economic development and the efficient, safe infrastructure have reduced the risk. While there was only a handful of foreign investors in the Finnish real estate market in 2002, by the end of 2005 they numbered approximately 30. Of these, a third had not previously invested in Finland.
