Major order for Boskalis in Gothenburg harbor

Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has won an order for broadening and deepening the entrance channels to the ports of Gothenburg (Sweden). The contract value exceeds EUR 30 million.

The client is the Swedish Maritime Organization. The project, under the name Â'Safer Fairways to GothenburgÂ', will start in December 2002 and will be completed around February 2004.

Broadening and deepening fairways
The work consists of two phases. Phase 1 is the broadening and deepening of the Â'TorshamnschannelÂ'. In phase 2 the Â'BöttöledenÂ' fairway will be broadened and deepened. Hopper dredgers will dredge in total some 10 million cubic meters of clay. About another 400,000 cubic meters of rock will be drilled, blasted and dredged. With this order Boskalis Sweden will make a contribution to the further development of the Gothenburg harbor.

Safety and capacity
Gothenburg harbor aims to achieve a major improvement concerning safety and an increase of capacity of the fairways and harbor. Later, the Â'SkandiaharborÂ' will also be altered in order to accommodate larger ships and container cranes.
