Legal & General secures planning on St Stephens Pl. leisure park in Trowbridge (UK)

Legal & General Property, the owner of Castle Place Shopping Centre in Trowbridge, announced that it has achieved planning consent on St Stephens Place Leisure Park. Planning permission was granted last night at Wiltshire Council's Western Area planning committee meeting.

The scheme, which includes a new seven-screen digital cinema operated by ODEON and an 80-bed Premier Inn hotel, as well as provision for seven family restaurants, cafes and bars, can now successfully move forward. Situated on the circa 3.5 acre former Tesco store site, the new scheme will provide much needed leisure space along with a new landscaped riverside walkway. Additionally it is set to generate a significant amount of new jobs for the local area, with approximately 200 jobs due to be created by the finished scheme and a further substantial number during its construction phase.

Tim Russell, Senior Asset Manager at Legal & General Property, comments: "The decision, which was recommended for approval makes way for a much needed and long awaited cinema-anchored leisure scheme that we feel best serves the demands of the County Town of Wiltshire and its surrounding catchment area. Furthermore, we are very excited that following this approval, we can now bring forward a development that will not only regenerate the southern part of the town center but help make Trowbridge an exciting destination for Wiltshire residents. We will start work on site immediately and look forward to opening St Stephens Place Leisure Park for the people of Trowbridge in Autumn 2013."

Ken Taylor, Property Director for ODEON UCI Cinemas, added: "Trowbridge offers a fantastic opportunity to bring the ODEON experience to the local area. We are excited to be anchoring this high quality, carefully thought out scheme that we believe strongly complements its catchment area and will provide a family-based leisure offer to the town for the very first time. Last night's decision allows us to move forward quickly and we are looking forward to work starting on site immediately."
