Bill Hughes, Managing Director of Legal & General Property, has assumed the Chairmanship of the Green Property Alliance, an umbrella organization that provides the voice for a collection of leading property member organizations which collaborate to achieve a more sustainable built environment.

The Green Property Alliance is an offshoot of the Property Industry Alliance and comprises the Better Buildings Partnership, British Council for Offices, British Council of Shopping Centres, British Property Federation, British Retail Consortium, CoreNet, Investment Property Forum, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and UK Green Building Council.
Over the last year, the Green Property Alliance has produced guidance for both landlords and tenants on their responsibilities under the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme. It has also sought to establish consensus on a series of common metrics to measure the sustainability performance of rented buildings, set down in a paper 'Setting the Ground Rules: Establishing Common Sustainability Metrics for Property'.
Bill Hughes takes over the Chairmanship of the Green Property Alliance from Martin Moore (PRUPIM). Bill Hughes joined LGP in November 2007, having previously held the position of UK Head of Real Estate at RREEF, the Real Estate Fund Management business of Deutsche Bank.
Commenting on his appointment, Bill Hughes said: "I am delighted to have been invited by the Property Industry Alliance to Chair the Green Property Alliance. I plan to continue the sterling work of my predecessor in the role, Martin Moore, in addressing the barriers to a sustainable built environment, and in clearly articulating to Government what would help to motivate owners, investors, occupiers and agents to act more sustainably.
"Since the sustainability agenda has become increasingly important in recent years, it has become even more critical that the property industry exerts influence upon how regulation and legislation evolves. I very much look forward to stepping up to this challenge."
Property Industry Alliance Chairman, Sir Robert Finch, added: "We are delighted that Bill Hughes has agreed to lend his acumen to the Chairmanship of this important group. There is a real need to co-ordinate industry efforts to better understand sustainability, and to put it into practice."
