Large cities want to keep their own Minister

The group of twenty-one large cities in the Netherlands (G21), which does not include the four large cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht, will request the new Cabinet for an extra investment of EUR 2.2 bln in the Large City Policy (GSB). And they also insisted that this policy will have to be the responsibility of a separate Minister.

With this proposal, the G21 want to counterbalance earlier proposals, such as by Minister of the Interior De Vries, that GSB can easily be handled by a State Secretary. The first convention, in which the cities have laid down the agreements with the State in respect of their policy, strategy and financing, expires by 2004.
