JJB Sports takes Amsterdam flagship store

In the biggest retail letting in Amsterdam for over a decade, UK retailer JJB Sports has taken the 75,000-sf former Marks & Spencer store at 66-72, Kalverstraat. And it plans to use the acquisition as a springboard for a major expansion into the Dutch market.

Landlord Fortis Vastgoed Beleggingen has granted a new lease on the six-storey building. The ground floor, first and second will be taken up by a JJB Sports Megastore, with a fitness centre on the third and fourth floors.

This is JJB Sports second retail unit in the Netherlands. The first opened last year in Beursplein Passage in Rotterdam,.and JJB Sports plans to open a total of 40 shops in the Netherlands. JJB Sports is being advised by Jones Lang LaSalle in the Netherlands. Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker represented Fortis.
