The Regional Director of the Woonstad Rotterdam housing corporation was presented with the prize on November 25, 2010 in Sugar City in Halfweg, near Amsterdam. Other nominees were Alexadra Boot of Boot Advocaten and Heleen Aarts, Director Area Development at Amvest.

Vermeeren is responsible for over 12,000 homes in the city of Rotterdam. She sees herself not only as a specialist in real estate. "I also have the public duty to strengthen the social and economic power of neighborhoods. Helping to improve people's quality of life is my most important personal drive."

Since 2007, DWIRE has organized the annual election of the Dutch Real Estate Woman of the Year. The prize is granted to the person who makes an important, surprising, special and creative contribution to the Dutch Real Estate market.

The jury this year, consisting of Marlon Huysmans, Director Sustainability at OVG, Hilde Blank, Director BVR, Jeannette Dijkman, Director/Publisher of Real Estate Publishers, and Annemieke Boiten, Asset Manager Public Real Estate at development company Rotterdam OBR, praised Vermeeren for her strong drive, clear vision and capacity for bringing parties together. A good example being the Bramantplein project in Rotterdam, where 660 senior homes will be renovated and a swimming pool is to be transformed into a modern wellness center.

Vermeeren herself sees her prize not only as recognition for herself, but for the housing corporations as a whole in the Netherlands. "In difficult economic times they are a stable factor, keeping up investments, albeit at a slower pace."
