International retail chains focus on Germany

Despite present low consumer confidence several hundred retailers are planning to enter the German market. According to a Cushman & Wakefield Healey & BakerÂ's study more than 170 retailers are planning to come to Germany within the next five yars. Spain and the U.K. may count on 163 and 150 new market entries respectively.

Spain and the U.K. are by far Europeans largest market in terms of settlements of international retail chains (387 and 517 respectively). Germany ranks third with 372. More and more retailers prefer to settle in cities with a population of larger than 400,000 inhabitants. The same applies to the foremr Eastern European markets, which enjoys a great interest with international retail chains.
