International recognition for five European shopping centers at ICSC Design and Development Awards.

Five European shopping centers received recognition at this year's International Council of Shopping Center's (ICSC) 29th Annual International Design and Development awards, which were announced and presented during a ceremony held on Thursday 8 December, 2005 at ICSC's CentreBuild Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

Bullring, Birmingham, UK, Estação Viana, Viana do Castelo, Portugal, Kamp-Promenade, Osnabrück, Germany and Stary Browar, Poznan, Poland all received full awards, whilst Klanderij, Enschede, Holland, received a Merit Certificate.

Since its inauguration in 1977, the ICSC International Design and Development Awards programme has recognised outstanding projects for excellence in the creation of new retail projects, and in the expansion or redevelopment of existing projects, both internationally and domestically. Ermine Amies, Managing Director of ICSC Europe said: "The success of the Europeans in the Annual International Design and Development Awards shows the strength of the commercial proposition and design across Europe."

Bullring, Birmingham, UK.

Bullring, Birmingham, United Kingdom, received a Design and Development Award for Innovative Design and Development on a new project. The goal of this project was to eliminate the negative perceptions of the previous 1960s structure. To create an environment blending with the existing fabric, rain and scale of the city, classic materials such as stone, metal, glass and timber were used. Drawing on Birmingham's historic street patterns, Bullring helps give the city a feeling reminiscent of contemporary continental European cities. The architecture pulled together the city's fragmented retail interests

and transformed Birmingham into a world-class retail destination. Bullring is owned by The Birmingham Alliance, (Hammerson plc, Henderson Global Investors and Land Securities plc), The architect for this project was Benoy. Gross Leasable Area: 109,917m² - 148 retail units on 3 levels. The center was opened in September 2003.

Estação Viana, Viana do Castelo, Portugal, received a Design and Development Award for Innovative Design and Development of a New Project. Estação Viana carefully surrounds the city's rail station, absorbing and blending with its history, shapes, sounds, smells and experiences. It inspires a rich design theme through its floors, shelters, graphic panels and logo. Its ambiance of old- train-station charm subtly blends with the modern architecture of its new construction. Kamp-Promenade, Osnabrück, Germany.

Kamp-Promenade, Osnabrück, Germany, received a Design and Development Award for Innovative Design and Development of a New Project.
