ICSC European Awards and Commendation winners 2004

On April 21st, at ICSC’s 29th European Convention in Rome, ICSC announced the awards and commendation winners plus finalists for the most outstanding new and refurbished shopping centers in Europe. These awards are recognized as the most prestigious in the field of European retail property.

Small New Centre (under 35,000 m²)
Armada Shopping and Trade Centre in Ankara (Turkey) has won the Award for Small New Centre. The Armada Shopping and Trade Centre is a 31,333 m² centre, developed by Sogutozu Construction and Management Inc and designed by A Tasarim Architecture and Consulting Ltd Co.
Parade in Pijnacker-Nootdorp (The Netherlands) has been awarded with a Commendation. Shopping centre Parade has a surface of 15,000 m². It has been developed by ING Real Estate Development (The Hague) and designed by Soeters van Eldonk Ponec Architects (Amsterdam).

Other finalists in this category were:

  • Metro City (Istanbul, Turkey), a 31,980 m² centre developed by Metrosite Insaat, Musavirlik, Hizmet ve, Ticaret AS
  • Volme-Galerie (Hagen, Germany), a 29,450 m² centre developed by AM Develpoment Germany GmbH


Large New Centre (over 35,000 m²)
Galeria Lodzka in Lodz (Poland) has won the Award for Large New Centre. This 40,000 m² centre has been developed by ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co KG (Hamburg) and has been designed by ECE.
Xanadu in Madrid (Spain) has won the Award for Innovation in this category. Xanadu has a surface of 129,875 m². It has been developed by Mills Corporation (Virginia, USA) and has been designed by Chapman Taylor Espana.

The other finalist in this category was Forum Montijo in Montijo (Portugal), a 57,000 m² centre, developed by AM Development Lisbon (Portugal) and designed by T&T Design (The Netherlands).

Specialised Centres
El Muelle in Grand Canaria (Spain) has won the Award for Specialised Centres. This 34,098 m² centre has been developed by Riofisa SA (Spain) and has been designed by Chapman Taylor - IDOM.

The other finalist in this category was Festival Park in Mallorca (Spain), a 30,323 m² centre developed by ES Mirall Developments SA (Spain) and designed by Guillermo Reynes.

Refurbishments/Extensions
CascaiShopping in Cascais (Portugal) has won the Award for Refurbishments/Extensions. CascaiShopping, that has a surface of 72,228 m², was the country’s first regional shopping centre. The centre has been developed by Initial-Sonae Imobiliária and Multiplan; the refurbishment by Sonae. Jose Quintela of Sonae Imobiliária was the refurbishment architect. The original has been designed by Nelson F de Almedia and Robert Fuchs.

The other two finalists were La Vaguada in Madrid (Spain), a 96,170 m² centre developed by Cominad de Propietarios (Presidente Rodamco Europe) and designed by Jose Angel Rodrigo (refurbishment: Chapman Taylor Espana), and Los Fresnos, a 38,000 m² centre developed by Testa Immuebles en Renta SA (Spain) and designed by RTKL Architects in Madrid (Spain).
