ICSC Europe announces finalists for 2013 European Shopping Center Awards (EU)

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has announced the 2013 European Shopping Center Awards finalists.

12 centers made it to the short list of finalists, representing seven countries across Europe. Jury chair for the 2013 ICSC European Awards, Jan Eijkemans, Managing Director of MAB Development Group BV, said: "There were a healthy number of entries into the 2013 awards, including many more refurbishments where centers are responding to the changing retail environment. Interestingly, significant adaptation to multi channel retailing isn't apparent in this year's entries, but we anticipate this changing in 2014."

Four of the finalists are in Turkey. Other countries represented are: France, Italy, Germany, The UK, Poland and Austria.

Every year, ICSC Europe presents awards to the best retail developments in Europe. Acknowledged to be the most prestigious awards within the Industry, the ICSC Awards give developers, architects and shopping centre management the opportunity to showcase their work to both a European and a global audience.

The Awards Jury consists of senior international figures within the shopping centre industry and any retail or entertainment project opened or newly refurbished or extended between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2012 was eligible to apply for an award.

Eijkemans added: "Selecting the finalists is always challenging. On a few categories there is general agreement among the jury on the finalists. Some of the other categories provoke much more discussion before the final decisions are made."

The jury will commence their tour of all the finalists across Europe early in the New Year before a final decision is made ahead of the winners' announcement at the 38th ICSC Europe Conference in Stockholm next April.

All European Award winners will be automatically submitted to the 2014 ICSC VIVA Best-of-the Best Awards Program to be announced in May 2014.
