ICSC CentreBuild Europe Conference on sustainability (UK)

After 25 years of success in the US, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is holding its first European CentreBuild Conference. The conference will be held at the Landmark Hotel in London on 20 June, 2008. Entitled 'The Challenge of Sustainability', the conference focuses on the challenges of sustainability in the planning, development, design, and construction of shopping centers and retail stores.

In early 2007 senior European developers committed to pursuing sustainable business practices established the European Sustainability Working Group. The group has since launched an initiative to develop a pan-European BREEAM framework in order to establish a common level of standards across the continent.

Jaap Gillis, ICSC European Chair and COO, Redevco, commented, "By sharing industry expertise and best practices in energy efficiency with key European decision makers, ICSC members can help to shape the policy environment which they face."

The panels will focus on the business case for creating sustainable shopping centers, architects perspectives on designing and delivering sustainable architecture for shopping centers, the advantages of using an environmental management system in the development of shopping centers, greening existing stock, and take a look at the shopping centers of the future.
