Hines' Zielo Shopping Pozuelo retail center in Madrid was chosen as the Best Small Shopping Centre by the Spanish Association of Shopping Centres at the XII Shopping Centre Conference, which recently took place in Bilbao. In choosing the center, an expert panel of judges took into consideration a wide range of criteria in which Zielo Shopping Pozuelo stood out, such as: originality; innovative elements; planning achievements; design quality; quality of construction; retail mix; integration of complementary uses; adaptation and integration into the surrounding area and respect for the environment; occupancy rates and financial results; as well as what the center has contributed to the shopping center industry.
Hines Spain Director Jamie Rea said, "Zielo Shopping Pozuelo is more than just a shopping center. Its groundbreaking sustainable architecture, cutting-edge design and varied mix of the best quality tenants, provide customers with the ultimate shopping experience. This award is confirmation that others see the center as we do."
Designed by Alberto Martín Caballero, the three-level retail center, which opened in October 2009, contains approximately 172,000 ft² (approx. 16,000 m²) and houses more than 60 shops and restaurants. Rooftop terraces offer impressive views of the Casa de Campo and the Madrid skyline, as well as provide a locale for visitors to enjoy a wide variety of cuisine. The property is currently pre-certified LEED® Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council, and was the first shopping center in Europe to receive this designation.
