Helical Bar and Aviva receive initial consent for 1.55 mln ft² White City mixed use scheme (UK)

Helical Bar plc and Aviva Investors have received planning permission for their Brickfields development, a major new 1.55 million ft² (approx. 144,000 m²) residential-led mixed use scheme on the former Dairy Crest site at White City, London W12.

The Members of the Planning Committee voted in favor of the resolution to grant planning permission and conservation area consent subject to entering into a Section 106 Agreement.

The 11 acre site is strategically located adjacent to White City underground station and just north of Westfield London shopping center. Once completed, the scheme will comprehensively regenerate the site creating a new urban community of 1,150 new homes, 210,000 ft² (approx. 19,500 m²) of offices and circa 60,000 ft² (approx.5,600 m²)of retail, leisure and community uses set within extensive landscaping.

At the gateway of the scheme is a dynamic urban square providing an active and vibrant focal point. Approximately 20,000 ft² (approx. 1,858 m²) of new retail space will be created around the square targeted at local and start-up companies. Other areas of public realm that will complement the square include an ecological walk and a major public garden at the heart of the scheme.

Brickfields forms part of the White City Opportunity Area, a large area of land identified as a key strategic location for regeneration by Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the Mayor of London.

Matthew Bonning-Snook, Development Director at Helical Bar said, “This is a major step forward in realizing the potential of this significantly underutilized brownfield site. The Eric Parry designed master plan seeks to properly integrate this scheme with the other emerging projects within the White City Opportunity Area, providing a cohesive vision for the regeneration of the area. This also represents the achievement of a key milestone in the Group’s development objectives.”

Neil McLeod, Head of London at Aviva commented, “As a major investor in UK real estate, we believe the regeneration of the White City area, of which Brickfields forms a key part, will fundamentally enhance and transform this part of London for the benefit of both local residents and our investors.”
