Heijmans wins €43 million parking garage project (NL)

Heijmans has won a contract from the 's-Hertogenbosch city council for the construction of the parking garage, Vonk&Vlam, in the city center of 's-Hertogenbosch. The contract is worth some €43 million.

Heijmans has been awarded the provisional contract on the basis of the Economically Most Advantageous Tender (Economisch Meest Voordelige Inschrijving - EMVI), which includes criteria such as the limitation of local nuisance, handling of the historical fortifications and the management of the construction process.

The parking garage will provide 1,040 parking spaces and is located in a very special location adjacent to the historic city center's ancient wall. The plan combines the realization of the garage with the restoration of the fortifications. The idea is to reopen public access to the surrounding public area, the Casino garden and the fortifications and make them attractive to visitors.

In view of the prominent location and the importance the city council attaches to what amounts to a significant calling card for the city, this will be a highly ambitious project with above average attention paid to civil engineering and landscape aspects, user-friendliness and comfort and sustainability.

The project is tailormade for Heijmans' integrated approach, which combines know-how and expertise in a variety of sectors. This is clearly illustrated in the plan of approach for the project, which the city council believed to be the best. The project is due for completion and delivery sometime around the summer of 2015.
