Grand opening of Médiacité (BE)

Médiacité was officially opened on October 20, 2009 by a spectacular laser light show.


Tuesday October 20, 2009 saw the grand opening of Wilhelm & Co.'s Médiacité. Located in the heart of Liege, on the banks of the river Meuse, Médiacité is a genuine urban development project by developer/investor Wilhelm & Co. Médiacité aims to bring life back into an entire district with 160,000 m² of shopping, leisure, cultural and economic activities on a site of more than 6.5 ha. The site is expected to attract over 6 million visitors per year. The design of Médiacité is from the architects Ron Arad Associates, Jaspers-Eyers &Partners and Chapman Taylor. Design management by Nicole van den Plas (Wilhelm & Co).

Combining culture and leisure, Médiacité will provide consumers with both entertainment and enjoyment, through retail, sport and media.
The development includes a regional shopping and leisure center. The leisure center will bring together a multiplex cinema, Olympic skating rink, fitness center, bowling alley and a huge restaurant and café area.
The 41,530 m2 GLA shopping contains a Delhaize supermarket and 145 shops. The center has 2,324 underground parking spaces.
Médiacité is easily accessible by the 950,000 inhabitants of the catchment area which extends to Maastricht (20 km) and the German border (40 km).
