Goodman completes development of Europe’s largest parcel hub at Hinckley Commercial Park (UK)

Global integrated property group Goodman has completed construction of a 360,000 ft² (approx. 33,445 m²) state-of-the-art distribution hub for the UK's fastest growing parcel delivery company, DPD, at Hinckley Commercial Park in Leicestershire.
The £100 mln (approx. €126 mln) development commenced in 2013 and will be fully operational in September 2015, following DPD’s completion of the internal fit out. Set on 13 hectares, the facility was built for DPD under a pre-sale agreement with Goodman.
The new parcel hub will bolster Leicestershire’s reputation as a prime UK distribution center, with the extension of DPD’s operations into Hinckley Commercial Park also creating 1,000 permanent jobs, making the logistics firm one of the region’s biggest employers. The completed building is almost half a kilometer long with 264 loading docks, and when fully operational will handle up to one million parcels a day.
Goodman has worked closely with DPD and Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council over several years to ensure the successful delivery of the project, which will significantly contribute to the growth of the region’s economy.
Charles Crossland, Managing Director of Goodman UK Logistics, said: “We are proud to announce the completion of this significant pre-sale at Hinckley Commercial Park. It is one of our most important logistics developments to date in terms of its scale, and demonstrates Goodman’s ability to deliver bespoke, complex customer requirements within a set time frame.” All six of the units at Hinckley Commercial Park are currently occupied and on completion of speculative Hinckley 165, development of the park will be finished. Work began on Hinckley 165, a 165,000 ft² (approx. 66,773 m²) prime distribution unit, in May this year and when complete, the site will be more than twice the size of a stadium-sized football pitch.
Goodman has invested £130 mln mln (approx. €126 mln) into its 405 hectares UK land bank to ensure that outline planning and infrastructure are in place and the sites are ready for construction. This unique offering dramatically reduces the time it takes to build fully operational logistics centers, a key concern for logistics customers. Goodman has 14 strategically-located sites across the UK market. These sites offer exceptional access to key transport hubs, including motorway interchanges and airports.
