Foruminvest to invest €250 million in Charleroi city center (BE)

The Dutch real estate company Foruminvest will invest €250 million in the redevelopment of the trade center and its surrounding area in the city center of Charleroi. The Charleroi-Expo mega project will give Wallony’s biggest town a lively city center, that in quality, comfort and safety can compete with other major cities in Belgium.

The plans were presented by Wallony’s prime minister Van Cauwenberghe and Charleroi’s mayor Van Gompel. It consists among other things of the development of a new trade and exhibition park of more than 23,000 m² with exhibition halls and a conference center, making it the biggest in Wallony.

There will also be a two-level 52,000 m² shopping center, including a hypermarket of approximately 12,000 m², which will be the second largest shopping center in Belgium. In addition, a four-star hotel with 120 rooms, new dwellings, a care center for elderly people, child care, 6,000 indoor parking places (the biggest indoor parking in Belgium) and two auditories for the University of Charleroi will be developed.

The functions of the project are concentrated around a new esplanade that prolongs the shopping axis in a natural way. The mega project, located in the city center, has a good accessibility due to its own access road to the Charleroi ring way and a private metro station.

With an investment of approximately €250 million, the project is one of the biggest real estate investments ever done by a commercial party in Wallony.

Foruminvest has recently taken over all SDEC SA shares, who manages and controles the existing trade centers and surrounding area.
