Fortis Dutch real estate unit to invest €100m in agricultural land (NL)

Fortis NV real estate unit Fortis Vastgoed plans to invest €100m in acquiring agricultural land, shifting its investment focus from equity to land, said the unit´s Chief Executive Erik Somsen.

Somsen said investment in land offers more security than equities in the long term.

Fortis is the biggest private investor in agricultural land in the Netherlands, owning 26,000 hectares. Last year, the company acquired 622 hectares in the province of Flevoland for over €10 million.

The State is seeking to sell some 13,500 hectares of its agricultural real estate in order to raise 110 mln eur for security measures.
